Meet Brian N. Hamel

MADISON, Maine - Brian N. Hamel joined the MBG team in May 2005 as a sales consultant. In April, Brian founded Hamel Enterprises, LLC, a full service consulting firm advising clients in the fields of base closure and economic development, business attraction, business consulting, fundraising and legislative matters. In addition, Brian is affiliated with the Presque Isle, Maine based financial services firm of Thompson Associates, working with existing and future clients through a variety of financial service products, including investments, life insurance, long-term disability and long-term care policies.

Prior to forming Hamel Enterprises, LLC, Brian was the President & CEO of the Loring Development Authority of Maine (LDA), and oversaw the development of the Loring Commerce Centre in Limestone from the LDA's inception in 1994 until April 2005. Due in large part to the efforts of Brian and his team, the former Loring Air Force Base has been transformed into a vibrant economic engine, bringing much needed jobs to northern Maine.

In recognition of his accomplishments, Brian has been honored as Developer of the Year by the National Association of Installation Developers in Washington, D.C., as the State of Maine's Champion for Economic Growth by the Maine Development Foundation, and as the Citizen of the Year by the Presque Isle, Maine Chamber of Commerce.

Under Brian's leadership, the LDA received national recognition for marketing excellence, including the National Job Corps Alpha Award, the Office of the Secretary of Defense Award, the National Association of Development Organization's Innovation Award, and the Maine International Trade Center's President's Award.

Brian has amassed 25 years of broad-based business knowledge during his career, including his experience in base closure development in Maine and New Hampshire, as an executive for a manufacturing conglomerate in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and as a CPA at one of the world's largest international accounting firms in Boston, Massachusetts. He graduated Cum Laude from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Maine Society of Certified Public Accountants. Brian is also a licensed Life & Health Insurance Producer.

Brian's contributions to public service have included his role as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of both the Maine Community College System and the Maine Winter Sports Center, Board member of the National Association of Installation Developers, Moderator of the Presque Isle Congregational Church, a member of the University of Maine at Presque Isle's Foundation and Board of Visitors, and a Corporator at The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle.
