Existing Businesses Contribute to Madison's Economic Development

These main street enterprises take full advantage of all that Madison has to offer to businesses in the town to thrive.

Worldwide, more often than not, the greatest portion of economic development in a community will come from existing businesses that grow their operations. The low electric rates, strong work ethic and community support have made Madison a great place not only for new companies to locate, but for existing firms to grow as well.

Backyard Farms has been a critical addition to the business community and is in the early stages of a planned expansion that will bring additional jobs to Madison and new products to the East Coast produce marketplace.

Three additional local businesses are also growing in the community. Ultra Fine Line, Inc. a specialty twine company that located in Madison in 2006. Recently, Nathan Pease, the company's owner announced the installation of new production machinery to meet growing market demands.

Medical Care Development, a company that already operates two elder-care facilities on Route 201 is exploring adding a third facility in Madison that will provide services to seniors in the region and add new jobs in the health-care sector.

Dr. Darren Richards, the founder of Madison Animal Hospital in the MBG park, is growing his practice and will be adding a second veterinarian to contribute to the health and well-being of our four-legged friends in town.

Madison is committed to helping these businesses continue to grow and attracting additional companies that will be able to prosper in the region as well. In addition to the welcoming and business-friendly atmosphere, enterprises that locate in Madison can take full advantage of numerous state programs and tools to support growth including grants to expand and improve technology from Maine Technology Institute, workforce training, Maine-Made marketing assistance, useful counsel on exporting through the Maine International Trade Center and classes from Maine Small Business Development Centers on everything from accounting to networking and negotiating.
