AUGUSTA, Maine - Madison town manager Norman Dean and former Madison director of economic development Perley Beane attended the Community Development Block Grant's (CDBG) annual Appreciation Day and 25th anniversary celebration in Augusta on August 17, 2007. The event recognized the efforts of local leaders and officials to foster community and economic development throughout the state.

Since 1988, Madison has received over $2 million in CDBG funding for projects such as the town's water tower, the downtown Main Street revitalization and several housing assistance programs to attract business and boost economic development in the town. Recognizing the direct impact these grants have had on the community, Norman Dean noted, "This program has helped to revitalize our community, which in turn has helped to bring businesses like Backyard Farms to Madison, and has improved our public facilities so that we can continue to grow economically and maintain our quality of life."

Madison is engaged in an ongoing effort to attract businesses, jobs and improve the economic conditions in the community through Madison Business Gateway. This group of local officials and business consultants works aggressively to promote Madison as a great place live, work, and operate a business. News and details about MBG can be found on this Web site.

CDBG is a federal program that provides over $13 million of flexible funding for Maine communities to use towards public infrastructure and facilities, downtown improvements, economic development, housing, public service and planning projects each year. The funds are distributed through Maine's Office of Community Development, part of the Department of Economic and Community Development.
